Ryan Fox - Clutch!
Jun 8, 2025 - RYAN FOX just pulled off a clinical stunner. The New Zealander captured the 2025 RBC Canadian Open in dramatic fashion, winning on the fourth playoff hole with a laser 3-wood to 7 feet, setting up the tournament-clinching birdie. The playoff duel? A rematch against SAM BURNS…and the same hole four times in a row.
FOX didn’t cruise to this one. He had to force the playoff with a clutch 17-footer for birdie on the 72nd hole to tie BURNS at 18-under. Meanwhile, BURNS had already posted an insane final-round 62, highlighted by five straight birdies on the back nine, and looked ready to walk away with it. But golf doesn’t always work that way.
In the playoff, both players had chances early — BURNS missed a five-footer to win on the first trip down 18 and then three-putted the final time around, leaving the door wide open. FOX finally slammed it shut with that picture-perfect 3-wood.
This was FOX'S second PGA Tour win in five weeks after his Myrtle Beach Classic victory, and he now joins elite 2025 company with the likes of SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER and RORY MCILROY as multiple-time winners.
KEVIN YU gave it a run too, finishing solo third at 17-under, but just missed the playoff and an automatic U.S. Open berth. FOX didn’t miss — his win rocketed him to No. 32 in the world, locking in his Oakmont spot.
At 38, with two PGA Tour titles and four DP World Tour wins, Fox is quietly building a serious resume — and now he’s doing it in style with back-to-back playoff wins.
