May 4 2025 - SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER was simply untouchable at the 2025 CJ Cup Byron Nelson, delivering a wire-to-wire masterclass that left the field—and the record books—shaking.
Playing on his hometown turf at TPC Craig Ranch, SCHEFFLER opened with a jaw-dropping 61 and never looked back. He backed it up with rounds of 63, 66, and 63 to finish at 31-under-par, tying the all-time PGA Tour 72-hole scoring record at 253. It could’ve been his outright record, but a bogey on 17 and a missed birdie putt on 18 kept him from owning it solo. Still, it was golf perfection.
He won by eight shots—the Tour’s widest margin since 2020—thanks to lights-out ball-striking (+12.811 strokes gained on approach), steady putting, and his usual dominance off the tee. Even a six-hour weather delay and finishing a round in darkness couldn’t shake him.
This was SCHEFFLER'S first win of 2025 after a string of near-misses, and it came at the very place where he made his Tour debut as a teenager. Now, with 14 Tour wins, a record-tying performance, and a fully firing game, World No. 1 is charging into the majors with some serious momentum.
Dallas got a show. And SCOTTIE got his homecoming crown.
This was SCHEFFLER'S 14th PGA TOUR title in his 139th start at the age of 28 years, 10 months and 13 days
Becomes just the 72nd player in the PGA history to reach 14 wins
SCHEFFLER'S 8 stroke victory was impressive, but it wasn't the largest margin at the CJ Cup Tournament as that honor is still held by SAM SNEAD and his 10 stroke win back in 1957
SCHEFFLER is the first wire-wire winner in over a year; the last one was LEE HODGES and his win at the 2023 3M Open
With the above mentioned 8 stroke margin, this was SCHEFFLER'S personal best for win margins; his prior best was 5 and he did that twice in his career
SCHEFFLER is the only boy among 4 siblings as he has 3 sisters
SCHEFFLER is a big fan of enjoying some pick-up basketball on occasion
Call it superstition or luck, but it has been stated that SCHEFFLER always uses the same coin as a ball marker - a bicentennial quarter from 1976
SCHEFFLER'S favorite tv show - The Office; and his favorite character - Dwight Schrute
